The short version
CourtSide is built for junior tennis families, which means it holds information about children. We take that seriously, and this policy is written to be read — not skimmed past.
- Parents own the account. Children never create accounts, never log in, and we never collect information directly from a child.
- We do not sell data. We do not run ads. We do not use your family's information for advertising of any kind. Ever.
- Your family's match records belong to your family.
- Coaches and academies see your family's data only when your family is connected to them, and only certain categories. Journals are never visible to anyone but you.
- One thing we want you to see clearly, not buried: if you record your player's mental state while charting a match (focused, frustrated, nervous, and so on), that is part of the match record, and your academy's staff can see it when your family is connected to that academy. If you'd rather keep those observations private, leave that field blank while charting — the journal is always private, no matter what.
The rest of this policy explains each of these in detail.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
CourtSide tracks the development of junior tennis players, so the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is foundational to how we built it:
- Parent-only accounts. The parent (or legal guardian) is the account holder. Player profiles exist under the parent's account. There are no child logins, child passwords, or child-facing data collection anywhere in the product.
- You enter your child's information; we don't collect it from them. All player information — name, match data, everything — is entered and controlled by the parent.
- No behavioral advertising, no data selling, no ad trackers. These are not settings; they are how CourtSide is built.
- You can review, export, and delete your child's information at any time (see "Retention and deletion" below).
What we collect
From you (the parent): your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
What you enter about your player: the player's profile (name and match-relevant details), match charting data (scores, point-by-point data, stats, and — if you choose to record it — mental state during the match), journal entries and reflections, opponent notes, ratings history, schedule and attendance information, training and fitness entries, expense notes, and any photos or videos you upload.
Automatically: basic technical information needed to run the service (device and log information), error and crash diagnostics, and product usage events (for example, when a coach opens a roster view — this is how we measure whether the product is working). We do not collect precise location, contacts, or browsing history.
What we never do
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with data brokers. We do not run advertising of any kind — no ads, no ad networks, no behavioral tracking, no tracking pixels. We do not use your child's information for marketing. There is no social feed, no player discovery, and no public sharing of your family's data.
Who can see your family's data
CourtSide enforces data access at the database level (row-level security), not just in the app. A family's data is invisible to other families by database policy.
If your family is not connected to an academy or coach on CourtSide: no coach or academy can see anything about your family. Unaffiliated means invisible.
If your family is connected to an academy or coach, their staff can see these categories:
- Match scores, results, and match stats — including, as noted above, any mental-state observations you recorded while charting
- Point-by-point scoring data
- Player profiles and ratings history
- Development metrics and fitness benchmarks
- Videos you've uploaded for review, and schedule/attendance data
- Development reports (see "Reports" below for who owns which reports)
And their staff can never see:
- Journal entries and written reflections (private to your family, enforced at the database level)
- Per-point and changeover notes you write during matches
- Calm/breathing tools usage
- Expense notes and family financial information
Connecting with an academy or coach
Connections never happen silently. CourtSide uses a two-sided confirmation:
- If you sign up through an academy's invitation, the connection is disclosed on the consent screen when you create your account, and you confirm it with a separate, explicit action.
- If you sign up on your own and your academy or coach later joins CourtSide and wants to connect with your family, nothing happens automatically — you confirm the connection in the app at that time. Until you confirm, they see nothing.
- Affiliation changes are handled through this confirmation process or by contacting us; they cannot be triggered by anyone else on your behalf.
Reports and who owns them
Development reports generated before your family connects with an academy belong to your family, permanently. Connecting with an academy later never transfers ownership of those earlier reports. Reports generated after you connect are the academy's work product, built from your family's data under the visibility rules above. Connecting makes your history visible to the academy per the categories above — it does not hand over ownership of anything created before.
AI features
Some CourtSide features use AI models from Google (Gemini) and Anthropic (Claude) to analyze match data or video that you choose to submit — for example, stroke analysis on a video you upload. Data sent for analysis is used to provide the feature you asked for.
AI features in CourtSide analyze tennis. They are not medical, psychological, or nutritional advice, and they are designed not to offer it.
Service providers
We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run CourtSide: Supabase (database, authentication, and storage), Vercel and Netlify (hosting), Sentry (error monitoring), Resend (transactional email), Google and Anthropic (AI processing as described above), and Apple/Google (app distribution). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to your family's data is enforced by database-level row security policies — isolation between families is a property of the database, not just the app. Media files live in private, access-controlled storage, not on public links.
No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. If a breach affecting your family's data ever occurs, we will notify you as required by law, and plainly.
Retention and deletion
You can ask us to delete your family's account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the address above. We complete verified deletion requests within 30 days, and residual copies in encrypted backups are purged within 90 days. When you close your account, the same schedule applies. You can also request an export of your family's data — the record is yours.
Your rights
You can review, correct, export, or delete your family's information, and you can withdraw consent for your child's information by deleting the player profile or the account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you before it takes effect — in the app or by email — not bury it. The current version always lives at this page.
